Slalom Inspires events
Our Events
Run by an army of volunteers, Slalom Inspires previously ran four events throughout the year all over the UK. These were fun filled weekends of canoeing, team-building, inspiring workshops and adventure activities such as rafting, canyoning and tubing. Girls often came feeling nervous but left having laughed all weekend, feeling inspired with far more belief in themselves and having made new friendships.
Unfortunately, our 2020 events were cancelled due to COVID-19. We converted our 2020 Welsh even to a virtual event but decided to postpone the others. Both COVID-19 and personal circumstances (Eilidh retiring from being an elite athlete and getting a full-time job) has meant that our events have not run for a few years. We hope to bring our events back in the future because
Regional Events
Aimed at UK ranked division 1, 2 & 3 girls
We held three regional events over the year, one in each Home Nation, but you did not have to be from that Home Nation to join! We always loved having lots of the premier division girls volunteering at these weekends as coaches and helpers. This was really empowering for them and it allowed us to showcase incredible role models to our younger girls.
National Event
Aimed at UK ranked division 1 and premier girls
We held one National Event per year, traditionally in November at the Lee Valley Whitewater Course. This was an epic weekend with high-profile inspiring speakers, paddling on one of the best whitewater courses in the world, and lots of opportunities for fun through activities such as rafting. Normally we had around sixty girls participating and thirty plus volunteers. In 2019, we were delighted to welcome Katherine Grainger, five-time Olympic medalist and UK Sport Chair to come and talk to our girls.
